Division of Forests and Lands
Welcome to the Division of Forests & Lands website! Our mission is to protect and promote the values provided by trees, forests and natural communities across the Granite State.
Forest Action Plan
The New Hampshire Forest Action Plan – 2020 offers a detailed account into the most pressing challenges and opportunities currently facing our forests. It serves as a guide for use by government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, landowners, natural resource professionals and private industry to proactively address issues facing New Hampshire’s trees and forests.
Forest Statistics
How much of New Hampshire is Forest Land? Who are the owners? How has forest land use changed? Statistics and trends about New Hampshire’s forests help contribute to informed decision-making about their future, resulting in positive impacts on our daily lives, recreational opportunities, the state’s economy and other factors our forests influence.
Forest Carbon
Storing and sequestering carbon are among the many benefits trees offer. Learning more about managing forest carbon can help you make informed decisions about how you utilize your forestland and can have a positive impact on climate change.
Interactive Map
The Division of Forests & Lands manages more than 450,000 acres statewide. The State Lands Viewer plots out all reservations that our division owns, manages and co-manages with partners like Fish & Game, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service, plus easements the division holds and monitors.
Use the DataCheck Tool
The DataCheck Tool is an online data screening tool the public can use to screen for known locations of rare species and exemplary natural communities.
Having a Timber Harvest?
Knowing the laws and rules for timber harvesting helps you protect both your investment and the environment.
Purchase New Hampshire-grown tree and shrub seedings
The State Forest Nursery was established in 1910 to grow and distribute quality, bare-root seedlings for forestry/wildlife, conservation and education purposes. Located within the 880-acre state forest in Boscawen, each year the State Forest Nursery grows three million seedlings on 16 acres of irrigated, outdoor seedbeds; it also has 20 acres dedicated to seed orchards and testing areas. Among its stock are more than four dozen species of conifers, hardwoods and shrubs, all available for sale in single species bundles or in combination packages.
